throttle stuck - can anyone help?

Hi all,
Just got an '03 silver DL1000 before the holiday and put about 500 miles in the past 3 days - I love this bike!. I noticed that every so often when I come to a stop and pull in the clutch the RPM stays at about 3500 and will not come down to idle RPM (mine is at about 1200 RPM) until I rev it a few times. Has it happened to anyone? Do you have any idea what the reason may be? Can I fix it myself?

...and I thought I was compromising...

It's gotta be a sticking throttle cable or something. Considering the age of the bike, I would slip past the dealer and get them to have a look. Good luck.

I have the same problem in a DL1000 K4 buyed last July and with 15.000 Km.
I have seen that the problem can be the throttle cable, because (at least in my case), if u try to put the clutch all to off, (u think that it's just off but..), it goes a little more forward and the rev's come down normally...
When i have some time i will take a closer look to this problem, but with that solution i can go on for few weeks
Perhaps u have the same problem, when u stop thinking that the clutch it's off at all, try to put it forward a little more, and if the problem it's the same the rev's will go down normally.

Thank you guys!
I figured it might be the throttle cable but just wanted to make sure this isn't a known issue.

High Idle Speed

Hi,

I have an '03 Strom & have been experiencing the same problem since shortly after I got the bike. It would randomly remain at approx 3100-3300 rpm when the throttle was closed. I would blip the throttle 2-3-4 times & then the speed would drop. I took it to my local dealer & they replaced/exchanged a number of the sensors on the bike & the problem continued. Some days it worked perfectly & the next day 3-4 traffic lights in a row the speed would remain high. The dealer contacted Suzuki & after a few calls they were able to talk to someone who was familiar w/ this condition. Suzuki indicated a TBS sync at 2500 rpm vs the normal speed seemed to help. This was done on my bike, but the problem remains, however the bike runs much better at slower rpm's, ie less than 4000 - huge improvement.

While riding the bike, I noticed that if I shifted the gearbox up or down when the revs were high, they would immediately drop to the normal idle speed. This works everytime - it's not a cure but is easier than blipping the throttle. Try shifting the gearbox the next time this happens & let me know if the speed drops. If it does work, I would like to send Suzuki a letter outlining this condition, because I consider it to be a potential safety hazard.

Hope this helps,

John

John,

Between the rain, floods and my out of town trips I didn't get to ride until this past weekend - hence the late reply.
You are absolutly right! the rpm drops immidiatly if I change gears. Please let me know if you find a solution. this is really irritating. I bought my bike used and I don't think I can enjoy the benefits of a warranty....

Sol.

Stuck Throttle

Sol,

I'm glad the info was able to help you. The next time I get a chance, I'm going to stop by the local Suzuki dealer & let them know I found someone else w/ the identical problem, to see if they can get the Suzuki regional service person to review it again. If I find any solutions, I'll post them.

Thanks,

John
