Oxygen sensor in US models? (Same old symptoms)
My Strom has all the same symptoms everyone else's seem to have on here : ocassional misfiring, stalling, popping and grumbling on decel, backfiring, inability to idle after longer distances, the obvious smell of gasoline in the exhaust after longer distances.
At first I thought it might be the PCIII map, so I changed it... nothing. Zeroed it out... nothing. Back to stock map, nothing.
Then I thought it might be leaks in the Two Bros exhaust system effecting the oxygen sensor, causing an automatic richening - which would then lead to the backfires, stalls, and smell of gas. But would the Power Commander override the ECU, or just supplement it? The Power Commander website even has a supplemental PDF showing how to disable the DL's oxygen sensor. That seemed like the next logical thing to try, until I read (possibly falsely) that the US models don't have an oxygen sensor (in addition to the absence of catalyst).
So, for now... I just need to know if the US models even use an oxygen sensor, and if so... would disabling it stabilize my mix over time, or cause even more problems?
If *not*, then I've got to go on to the next potential fix... throttle-body syncing might be the trick, but it really seems like the bike is on some auto-richening kick when these symptoms come up, not just simply being out of sync.
