Wilbers to the rescue!
A package full of goodies from Wilbers Suspension arrived last week. It was fork springs and oil with a side of outrageous custom shock. High and low speed adjustable compression damping, adjustable rebound damping, and remote hydraulic preload adjuster. All sprung according to my weight and riding style of course! Saturday came around and man was I ready to tear into this project. After a week of rain the forecast was clear, breezy and 75 degrees. A perfect day to open the garage door and take it all in. The (four hour) install went smooth and the results look absolutely professional, thanks to the excellent supplied hardware. A test ride to Home Depot showed improved handling and a decent ride, though one that could be dialed in a bit better. Sunday responded with nice, dry 80 degree weather. It was one of those great days when everything's fresh and it feels good just to be alive. I headed for a local twisty, hilly area and - Wow! No fork dive, no squat, just a beautiful handling bike. The steering was so consistent during entering, leaning and exiting that picking a line was as easy as thinking about it. And dialing in the high speed damping left me looking for small pot holes and ridges just so I could laugh out loud as they got soaked up. A good day, a nice ride and newfound respect for this amazing machine. Go 650, go!
