Doing an extended trip on the V. What is the best seat option, ie gel, air, etc for a reasonable price? Looking for input..

I bought the Suzuki gel seat just before the Stromtrooper rally last October. Rode 1250 miles that weekend without a problem.

in terms of actual seats, the OEM units (tall or jell) are well priced. Beyond that, a good sheep skin is nearly always a good investment. Really tho in terms of cheap, the best thing is likely to open it up and play with the foam (shape, add etc). If you are uncomfortable with doing that an upholstery shop could likely do wonders for a hundred bucks or so.

I spent 20 minutes on the stocker with a belt sander and it's good enough. Just made the curve where it was hitting the tailbone (drop from the passenger seat) sharper. I add a sheepskin for long trips.

I traded my 650 seat for a 1000. I got a comfier seat I wanted and he got a lower seat he needed. It only cost each of us ~$20 shipping. It worked well enough on my old bike but I bought a sheepskin for a little extra.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

I just got the 150$ gell seat, and I am VERY suprised at its quality! It sits a lot higher then the stock 650 seat, and is flatte and wider. Much better seat in my openion. WELL worth the 150$. Any other seat is twice that or more, like the Corbin.

The cheapest and best seat option is taxi beads. Every time I tell people about taxi beads, I get a reaction as if I had said "broken glass". For $8 and a little bit of work cutting it down it to fit the seat, it's the most comfortable option I've tried.

Wow, $8.00 for one cover? You went all out. I bought one for $10.00 and managed to make 2 covers out of it.

I have to agree with you though, beads are the way to go.
