Question on rear rack

Are the handles on the side of the rack solid or hollow. I want to drill into them for a mount point. If its solid or thick enough I'd like to tap it. If not then it would mean bolting thru it. Has anyone did this?

It's a casting. Unless somebody has developed some way to create a hollow in the middle of a casting without showing any evidence on the outside, it is solid. Be aware that drilling a casting will weaken it.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

Thanks greywolf. Thats what I was hoping, It will be a small hole, so the weakening shouldn't be a problem ( I hope).
