Tank protector project

I made a leather tank protector http://picasaweb.google.com/bobosmit...07767045275666 but I'm having a problem finding the right way to mount it to the tank. I'd like to glue it right to the tank with some kind of adhesive. What can I use that's safe to on paint and can be removed if necessary?

Regular arts and crafts rubber cement should do the trick. Try some on an inconspicuous area and see if it affects the paint. I have used it on cars to hold parade banners and the paint was perfect when the banners were removed.
