Signal Lamp improvement with Pics

I saw many posts here regarding poor visibility of signal lamps of the DL.
The root of the problem seems to be the missing reflector in the lamp assy (cost saving? Good Morning Suzuki!).

Some folks tried with silver paint, others with alu tapes or even with egg cups/boxes on the inner surface of the lamp housing.
Almost all of them reported big improvement compared to the original.
But as far as remember only one fellow posted pics (link to his album) and those pics don't show the difference, but only the final result. You cannot see and judge whether the mod is worth the effort or not.
As I was interested in a simple and cheap mod and curious about its impact I went for the alu tape solution.

You need a philips type screwdriver, a scissor and alu tape.

It's easier to work with the tape when you remove the bulb holder.

It is not necessary to cover the bottom of the housing because it is almost fully masked by the bulb holder (no light to reflect).

With the installed bulb holder.

I prepared only the right side lamp, below you can see the difference.

You can also see a short video about the lamps in action here.

Although the improvement is visible I am not satisfied with the result. I expected more, but I think this is because of the "far from optimal" geometry of the housing.

Man, it is very hard to focus on the lamps....with that HUGE plate. What do the government agencies think?

Anyway, thanks for the photos, and your effort. I can see little difference, like you said, but I imagine there is more of a difference in person. Nice job on the tape though. Much better than I might have tried, tinfoil all wrinkled up inside.

It's easier to make good shot with a traffipax (the machine that is used by the speed controller cops here...).

Same modification I used, but I did not remove the socket. Made a template and cut tape to go over the socket giving the new reflector a more flat aspect to the amber lense. I cut the tape a little oversized to attach to the housing at the edges. The photos do not do the results justice! You have to be there to appreciate the improvement.

Nice Job mokusbajusz!

I just did mine the other day too, but with aluminum foil and amber bulbs. The result is pretty much the same: it fills in whole area of the blinker. I like how *clean* your results are...very nice!

Thanks Mokus, good job. They are noticeably brighter at the outer edges of the lens.

I am thinking about using cut pieces of glass or plastic mirror epoxied into the housing and brighter conventional type bulbs.

Smile Reflective tape

I tried several things with mine and the white reflective tape found in most stores hardware sections yielded the best results....

Very well documented, thank you. Now what about some reflector tape under those red lenses on that Givi tourpack? I was able to find some at a local boat store and did both large lenses. Did not do the middle because of the lack of reflector tape. I want to say to do the large ones it was 2 strips of 2"X24".
Anyway thanks again for the bright (Hehhee) idea, good job!
