Anyone Ever Remove The Black Rim Round Givi Windshield?

OK, so I'm going to be riding with this Givi Windshield for a while -- as I used blue locktight to put it on and now the little rubber nubbies just ride around and around when I try to take it off.

SO: I like the shape, but I'm not wild about the black edging, which I find distracting. Anyone ever remove it?

I haven't got a Givi screen (yet), but...

I wonder if the trim serves to stiffen the shield (like the "bead" around the stocker)? Removing it might result in the shield flexing at higher speeds.

Just a thought.

It's really soft..

The GIVI guys say it's no big deal to remove it... the only issue is that it's not a polished edge. I'm actually thinking of upgrading to the cali scientific shield as I find the black rim distracting.

I'm not sure any shield can generally be considered an upgrade over another. The best shield is the one that works for you. I have the MP Cycle Design and think it's pretty good but not a good as some have reported for themselves. I'm thinking of getting the Madstad mount which most people agree can improve the performance of any shield because of the great adjustability it provides. Adjustment is the key in my opinion.

I love the Givi shield, but found the black trim distracting. Grabbed one end of the trim at the shield bottom and carefully peeled it away from the shield. Came of fairly easily, except for a couple of places where there must have been a lot of glue some of the black trim remained behind and seems solid as a rock. Unfortunately one of those places at right at the top of the shield! Big overall improvement for me with the trim gone, but I cannot figure out how to get rid of the little black pieces left over short of trying a razor blade. Just cosmetic really, but I'd like to clean it up.

Any body else encounter this when removing your black trim?

There's no such thing as a bad ride, some are just better than others...

I have had windscreens cut down before. You can polish them to a nice rounded finish.

I made a sanding block with a concave edge. Went through various grits of sand paper finishing with wet type very fine grit,

Then I used a metal polish on a cotton cloth for a final glossy polish.

I thought it would leave scratches in the adjacent areas but I found this not to be the case. I even used it to polish out some scratches with pretty good results.

I would use the razor blade carefully and then polish as above.
