GIVI topcase questions

I'm dazed and confused...

What's the difference between the V46 and E460? What about the E470?

What, if anything, else do I need to mount it on the Wee as a topcase or does it come with the necessary hardware?

Will the silver colour match a K5 Silver Wee?

Or should I go for the E52?

I plan to mainly use it for storing my FirstGear overpants and possibly my helmet, if they'll both fit.

Thanks in advance,

- Martin

I can answer a few of your questions.

The E470 is new (I had to look it up.) and it is MonoLock case. That means it comes with a universal mounting plate and is lighter duty (11 pound capacity) than the MonoKey cases.

The V46 and the E460 are MonoKey cases, are a little heavier built (22 pound capacity), and require that you purchase an additional mounting plate (E528 and horribly overpriced).

The V46 and E460 are the same size, but their dimensions are slightly different (V460 is greater). I think the cover on the E460 is not as sleek, and thank makes the capacity (46 liters) equal. The E460 is about $35 cheaper than the V46.

I have the E460 because it was cheaper than the V46 and heavier duty than the MonoLock cases. Some people like the E52 because of its greater capacity, others do not like it for its size. I have found that no matter how big my top case is (or my garage), I have always been able to fill it up. I would have purchased the E52, but the cheap side of me kicked in. I have been able to fit everything I need to into my E460, but the E52 sounds very temping if I were to do it all over again.

The cost of any of these cases will go up if you decide on a painted version rather than the flat black.

I purchased my case from RL Motorcycles due to their prices. Service was very good.

Well, I went ahead and ordered the Givi E52 Maxia in flat black.

I found it for $249 at sporttour.com (mounting kit was a painful $73 more  , shipping was another $25 :x ).

I might have saved about $10 by buying from cyclesaddles.com due to their free shipping on orders >$300 but their site wouldn't let me enter my Canadian bill-to info.

I'm so looking forward to getting this thing! No more contortions and jumping up and down to get my backpack on!

I got the E52 flat black from amotostuff (along with their spiffy adjustable mount/luggage rack). I love it. It rattled a little on the amoto mount, but some tape as shock absorber sorted that. It's hugenourmous, but looks natural on the back of the never-dainty Strom.

If you get the E52, be sure to buy the optional brake light assembly. In my opinion, it really adds to the safety of your bike and is more than worth the cost.

(Just got back from a rally in the Finger Lakes region in NY. Air mattress, tent and sleeping bag fit in the E52 with a little room for other assorted small items.)

The E52 will definetly be enough for your pants and helmet. I have the E450 top case and I can fit my XXL Padded Tour Master Jacket and my XXL Full Face Helmet plus gloves and Sunglasses.

I have the E52 and couldn't be happier. I got mine in gloss black because The One Who Must Be Obeyed thought it looked better than the matte black. Having compared a pretty good cross-section of available topcases at Florida Stromtrooper gatherings, I'd say the E52 does not look appreciably bigger than the V46 when compared on bikes parked side by side.

It's not an adventure unless you need a tent, a passport, and a leather glove for your shooting hand.

Hey jetjag, what tank bag you got? it looks nice and small but big enough.
I just mounted my E-460 top case. Yes the monting plate is overpricewd for a peice of honeycomb plastic. Pain in the butt too. I hate picture directions, like IKEA furniture.
The old saying, always get more than you think youy need.

It's a SW-Motech Daypack, which apparently as been discontinued and replaced by the Daypack II: http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade...view/1859/441/

Looks like the only change is the map window has been replaced by an outside pocket. That's probably a good change, the map window in my bag is quite useless. It's a good bag, just big enough to carry stuff I might want to have access to while riding (sunglasses, garage door opener, wallet, camera, etc...). The bag has no straps or magnets, it locks to a ring that bolts onto the ring around the fuel filler. It snaps on and off in a second, so when I commute to work I throw all my junk in it, and the bag comes in with me.
