Cheap side (and top) cases

I just got in the Givi side case mounts I ordered the other day for my DL650. They were $165 shipped. Probably should have set up a dealer account and bought them direct, but oh well.

Then I modified the mount to accommodate the my Bestem top case. These retail for $70 each and are almost identical to the Givi. The two differences are of course, quality and the latch catch is on the other side of the tab. I machined a slot that goes all the way through now. I used a manual mill, but this could be done with a bench vise, hand drill, Dremel tool or die grinder, and a little patience. It could even be done with a drill and a rat-tail file if that's all you had.

This is what I started with.

After machining.

On the bike.

With my top case attached.

I'll go pick up two more top cases next week and I'll have a top and side case set-up that is very water-resistant (I haven't had my case ever leak) that cost about $375 total and I didn't get any special pricing. They have cables to keep the lid from falling all the way and luggage straps to keep your junk in yo trunk. Plus, I'll have two extra top case mounts that I can use on other bikes.

The side case mounts are Givi PL532 and I got them from Helmet Head Cycle.
The cases I got from Bestem USA and they are model 929.

After some more testing and a few modifications, I will be offering these as a kit if anyone is interested.

Were any other modifications required besides the latch catch?

Not directly. There are some unused wires I cut out and I am going to change the cables that keep the cases from opening too far and how they are mounted. Since they are designed as top cases, the cables are not set up to have the full weight of the lid. If you are careful, it won't be a problem.

two questions:

1. How do you secure the cases at the bottom?

2. What is included in the kit you plan to sell?

DL-1000

Will the PL 532 work on the 1000? Or is another mount required. Also the mount fitting you modified, does it come with the rack or the cases?
Thanks

not to hijack the thread. I see the Bestem looks just like the Givi E460. I bought a used 460 at a ridiculously low price, but why would anyone buy the Givi if the Bestem is almost identicle? What is the difference other then saying Givi? Just curious.
