The center connector on the coax plug is hot. That's to protect in from contacting the grounded frame. Cut it off and polarity is unimportant on the controller output. The heating elements don't care. The input to the controller is important but that is not the end you are modifying.
I've put the OEM heated grips on my 07 650 and I'm underwhelmed by the heat they put out, particularly the clutch side. The stock bars are a very effective heat sink.
Will swapping out a heat-troller for the OEM controller push any more heat out of the grips? On high the 'Zuki ones are mildly warm, certainly not "hot."
