Having electrical problems, re-wiring questions.
My bike turned itself off and I saw a puff of smoke come up from under the gas tank. After stripping it down, there's nothing obviously burnt. No blown fuses either. Nothing appears to be wrong, the key turns on and I have power. Before this happened the voltage started dropping and my mounted GPS got a low battery warning.
I'm adding some new heated gear this season, so it's an opportunity to re-wire all my accessories. Instead of running power+ground for every device, I want to clean up my wiring and run a single ground wire to the front: GPS, heated grips, heated gloves & jacket, heat-troller, power outlet. What gauge wire should be enough for a ground. Or is it better to run separate ground wires? Everything goes into a fuse block under the seat, so it doesn't seem like a bad idea.
