How the **** mirror removal?

Hey Guys, New to me 07 Wee nicely farkled: Givi windshield on mastad, sw-motech crashbars and plate, full Givi luggage, 4 pot front calipers, etc. I've added my outlets for my gerbings(needed them this am as it was 39 when I got up). Having spent a lot of time learning the ins and outs of these fine little toys, I thought I'd try the Aprilia mirror switch for stock.

For the life of me I can't get the stock mirrors out of the stock mountings. They are off the bike, the top 19mm is loose from the actual bar mount but in spite of heat and killer penetrating oil, I can only get the shaft to barely turn in the mounts. It'll turn only and not back out. For the everyone who's done it, it seems like a 10 min job. What am I missing?

Can't find anything with search. Prob my bad, but I've tried every combo I could.

Thoughts?

Mark

Here's the assembly. There is a bunch of thread locker and the brass part is a taper that likes to lock in the receiver. Defeat the thread locker with heat to get the two steel sections apart and wiggle the stem to break the taper connection. The pop rivet is just there to keep the brass taper from coming off the end.

Thanks for the reply and pics! Guess I need more heat and grunt. I figured it was a press fit in there, but wasn't sure. Thanks again.

Since you are kind of on the subject of mirrors....

I have an '07 1000 and the left mirror is not the tightest where it meets the shaft. I think the previous owner may have beat it up a little. Some heavy bumps will move it.

Any easy fixes to the problem?

Thanks.

You can see how it is put together. Take it apart, add blue Loctite and put it where you want before it sets.
