EZ GPS Mount for your tank bag.

1. Get a ¼” Plexiglass/Lexan sheet and cut to size. (If you talk nice, the guy at the glass repair shop will give you a scrap from his trash can for free.)

2. Adhere Velcro to back of GPS unit, cutting out hole as necessary for access to the clip that opens the battery compartment.

3. Adhere Velcro to Plexiglass.

4. Slide the Plexiglass into the map holder of your tankbag, or, if you don’t have a map holder, adhere the Plexiglass to the top of your tankbag with more Velcro (wonderful stuff, that Velcro!)

Important: Use industrial grade Velcro – the strong stuff.

Important: Go around all edges of the Velcro (especially on the back of the GPS unit) with Super Glue, which is much stronger than the adhesive that’s already on the back of the Velcro. This will prevent the Velcro from peeling off, even on a super-hot day.

The GPS unit will not dislodge itself, trust me, the Velcro will hold it, but if you’re nervous that it might, loop the GPS carrying strap around something in or on your tank bag.

Optional: (Barely visible in photos) Glue a piece of felt or other soft cloth material to the bottom edge of the Plexiglass to prevent it from scratching the map holder plastic.

Nice idea, but have you ever thought about what could happen to that piece of Plexiglass and you in a crash? How about sewing some velcro to the top of the bag to mate with some stick on velcro under the GPS?

It's an SW-Motech Day Pack bag. One second to put on. One second to take off. I really like it.

Is it magnetic? Would you have a better picture of it on there?

Heavy,

The bag fits on an SW-Motech 'Quick-Lock Socket'. It's a ring that you fit on your gascap. Cost about $ 25.00 for the tankring, then you can fit all kinds of stuff to it. Takes five minutes to install the tankring, which remains permanently on you bike.

Different sizes of tankbags are available and even a thingy you can mount a camera or video camera to. Nothing touches the tank and they come on and off with a pull of a cord.

Different suppliers sell the system online. I got mine from TwistedThrottle (The online place in Rhode Island. Google 'SW-Motech'). They have lots of pictures of it on their site.
