Aux Lighting

Gang, looking at adding either the PIAA 510 or 004 lights and then an auxillary light bar like the one at amotostuff, and then place that supports the forum (seems to be the same product design). Anyone have experience and or knowledge of them? I'm kind of leaning towards the 510s because of the "look", although the 004s are a heck of a lot less obtrusive, speaking of which, do you know where the light bars mount? I asked amotostuff.com and the woman didn't know. Comments, concerns, experiences?
Thanks again. . .

I have purchased two products from amotostuff. in NV. From my experience and others I know they are a first rate company.

As for your lights, I have not installed a light bar on a Strom before but I might be able to figure out how the bar mounts. From the looks of the bar it seems it mounts to the lower cowling below the headlights. If you take a look under there you will see three of the pop rivits things. My guess is you would replace the two smaller ones with bolts, securing the light bar and cowling.

PS -- i don't spell or grammar check in most cases, but props if you can use my quick typing to debunk the factual foundation of my arguments!!

I have the amotostuff lightbar and I can comment as to it's quality and ease of installation. You simply replace two of the pop rivets with a threaded nut clamp that fits on the subframe. You then bolt the bars to that. Very simple, very stable, and 100% reversable. Minimal vibrations, even when using a large light such as the 510's or what I use, the Hella FF200's. The black semi-gloss powder coat has been very durable. I have zero complaints about this product. Highly recommended.

I had mounted a couple of small, low wattage - 20W - lights on my KLR650 one day. My wife never spots me when I ride - this has been for years now.

The day I put the lights on the KLR I saw my wife heading into town as I was headed to the house. When she got back later, she mentioned that she saw me on the bike. That was the first time she ever mentioned that.

Since then I like to have an extra set of lights on the bike. I call them "Conspicuity Lights" as they help others see you better.

I think I'm going to mount a pair of lights on the crossbar of my Pat Walsh Engine Guards. Just for others to see me with!

which is exactly why I want additional lighting. I'm hoping (fingers crossed) the pin in my shoulder took so I can ride through the adirondacks and up to Canada next month, and I'd like to be a bit more conspicious as well as have the additional lighting. Just trying to recruit a friend to help with the install since I still can't use my left (dominant) hand or arm...grrr...
