Why Should I Put a Power Commander On My DL1000K6 ?

As a programmer by trade, I understand the ability to change the fuel injector settings by increasing, decreasing the amount of fuel at specific rpm ranges. Also as a person that has tuned carbs, I understand what benefits this can accomplish.

Is it worth it to add the Power Commander to the DL1000K6?

Just looking for reasons to spend that kind of money.

Speaking for myself, I just don't find it necessary. Once started, it seems the tinkering and adjustments just never end. I'm happy with the OEM setup.

It's another point of failure in your bike, and by far more fragile than the OEM electronics- I know personally of several power commander failures. Teka worked great for my TLR.

Might you elaborate on Teka?

I know on some cars - specifically the Mustang Cobra - you can purchase a device that will allow changes directly to the flash memory. Is there anything like that available for the 'Strom. Please excuse my ignorance on this subject as this is my first ever fuel injected motorcycle. I'm a carb person.

There sure is FL...it's called a Teka box.

You don't necessarily 'need' a Power Commander to change the settings on a fuel-injected Suzuki. You can use a Teka box device to modify the ECU's fuel injection settings. Yoshimura also has something similar, it just doesn't offer as much adjustability.

There's probably a dyno shop somewhere near you that has either the Teka or Yosh, and can remap your DL1000 if you don't like the OEM setup. You don't need to buy the Teka or Yosh, just find a shop that has one.

I had my '02 GSXR750 racebike remapped with a Teka box, not to increase peak hp but to instead "soften" the transition from off-throttle to on-throttle which helps prevent upsetting the chassis in the middle of a corner, and pick up a few hp in the midrange along the way.

It's quite cool really because a Honda, Yamaha or Kawasaki would have to buy the Power Commander, download the maps, go to a dyno, and test a bunch of maps to find a good one. Or make your own map. With an FI Suzuki, not necessary.

Get a Techlusion digital fuel optimizer, it will probably work better than anything else. I did the Yoshimura box remap, but I am still having some "sporadic" surging issues. The DFO is my next purchase!

My 2 cents.

AFM is right on, that's the teka. it has a unit that mounts on the bars so the bike can be tuned while riding. no dyno time like the powercommander dealers try and talk you into.

the techlusion is another onboard box like the powercommander, i believe.

Yes I saw a Techlusion box for the first time last month during a group ride to Yosemite, Dale Walker of Holeshot Performance had a Techlusion on his new '06 DL1000.

He said he spent quite a lot of time getting the setup perfected on his dyno, and that it was definitely worth the time invested because his bike ran way way smoother with better fuel economy than stock.

Any other information about Dale Walker's TFI Tuning Box?

I sent along an e-mail and got a response from Dale. He said he would assist in settings on the box. Price is not too bad at under $250.
