LED Light Strip Question

Bought one of those $1.99 Hong Kong Fooey LED light strips from fleaBay and was wondering if there is a way I can test it before installing it. Can I just connect the leads to the batt real quick to see if it lights up, or is there another way?

I checked my fleabay, china made LEDS, with a 9V (borrowed from smoke detector) battery.

Pretty sure I have the same lights you have, but bought mine thru a guy in the states. Anyway - I hooked mine straight to the battery for testing pusposes, my lights were specific for a 12V system, think your are too.
