Question for the radio while you ride crowd

I have an ipod and walkman for the occasional music accompaniment on my rides. Ipod is ok, walkman ok on CD, just not able to receive steady reception on FM, and terrible buzzing on AM-directly related to throttle movement (used to have the AM problem in the old days in the car, just swapped out the spark plugs to resistor style and that fixed it).

1) Aren't the standard plugs in the bike resistor?

And:

2) Is there a way to have an antenna on these mobile (in my jacket pocket) devices?

I do not use a tank bag.
Thanks in advance.....

So if you plug the music player into the autocomm, it acts like an antenna, and AM reception is ok?

No you are not going to get rid of the AM buzzing with an autocom. AM frequency is very prone to interference. If the interference is being induced through the antenna and not by powering the device from the bikes power then there is little you can do. If you only get the interference when the device is on bike power you can put an isolation loop between the bike and the device available at Radio Shack.

You can switch to XM or Sirius radio. AM will lose signal just a few miles from the antenna. Satellite radio is coast to coast. If you are looking for talk radio Sirius is best for music XM is better. Sirius is stealing NASCAR from XM in 2007 and I am making the switch from XM then. Of course this assumes you are in the US.

Thanks torqueman,
I was just trying to listen to the SF Giants game...
The interference is not from bike power, just aa batteries
Still trying to decide if I want satellite radio.
