Oxford Heated Grips issue

I know at least a few people have used/still use Oxford heated grips. I got a set for my '03 DL1000, and was installing them this weekend. Dry installed them all, and everything worked perfectly. Started installing things on the bike (i.e. running wires under the fairings, using glue on the grips). Still everything worked well. Got problems when I installed the control unit on the handlebars using the kit bracket. On/off switch now works, but the grips won't heat, and the blue level indicator doesn't come on. I wonder if I went through a wire inside the controller when I used the install screws to mount the controller on the bracket. Anyone have anything similar?

I've opened my control box and unless you used a longer screw you probably didn't go through a wire inside. If the none of the lights come on you may have a bad unit, try and get a new control unit, the latest version is v6b if I recall. Also check your voltage at the connector, the oxfords won't come on below 11 volts. Maybe one of the metal pins or sockets came slightly out of one of the connectors while you were dry fitting them?

Thanks...I'll check the voltage. I wasn't aware of that....maybe they'll work if I ride around a bit and get the voltage up (though they worked at idle before). Will also check the connections for the nth time.

I also sent a note off to the folks at Twisted Throttle to see if they have any guesses/suggestions.

Check the Connectors.
Check the Voltage.
Older units, make sure you hold down the button long enough for the Blue light to come on.

Let us know what it was.

Have had mine one for a year now. And LOVE em.

It's probably the voltage. Mine often won't turn on while the bike is parked and idling. Just about a few feet of riding and they fire right up. I've had mine for about a year now and I couldn't be happier with them

Looks like it wasn't the voltage, or the controller box. I ordered another unit from Twisted Throttle, and it arrived tonight. I systematically went through the parts, and it was the cable with the black box with no controls on it that connects to the battery. I don't know why it got messed up, but it did somehow. Will zip it all up again tonight and hopefully have heated grips tomorrow. And will send the defective unit back to Twisted Throttle.
