My gas mileage..what the...

Ok now I just read a post about someone getting around 45-50 Mpg. I am only getting 33-35. Something is wrong here. This is the 1000 I am talking about here.
- 2500 miles on the odometer
- Driving style is within the normal range, sometimes hard sometimes not
-Stock pipes or scorpions milege is near the same
-No power commander
-Everything stock on the bike
-windsreen in the lowest position
-always let the bike warm to two bars before riding
-throttle bodies have been synched
Any ideas please?

another thing, when does the fuel pump indicator begin flashing for you 1000 riders, in terms of miles?

This may or may not be related but I noticed this today. After the bike has been sitting for several hours or overnight, at start up I notice a bit of blueish white smoke out of the mufflers. The smoke is quite light and it goes like this. Bike is warmed up ready to go, short blip of throttle and when I let off there is the smoke.

Hmmm....

Letting the bike warm to 2 bars is a waste of gas. Engines warm up best under a light load. Give the engine 30 seconds or so to get the oil moving and you're good to go. Just keep the revs reasonable until the engine is warm.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

Same issue here :!:

The first tank was 33MPG and the last two were 36MPG. I talked to my dealer and they said when I bring it in for the first service they will check it out. Hopefully today or next week for sure. I am not sure if the TB's are synced or not. Completely stock windshield in the second position a new one will be on next month at the latest. I'm a little concerned about doing the TB sync myself, only for warranty concerns not that I can't do it if I had the right instructions.
I have heard of gas analizers but am not sure what they will do. Can anyone tell me?
I can smell gas when I first start it and shut it off, may be expected? But sometimes when idiling as well. The bike does run good and I love it but sure would be nice to be in the forties

I took a nice ride yesterday. I rode pretty agressive and free spirited! I reset my odometer after I filled up. I had exactley 70 miles by the time I arrived home. My fuel gauge was STILL reading all the bars. I will calculate my mileage, after the next decent ride that I take. If I were guessing at this point.....I would say that I am easily getting in the strong 40's range. I still am confused as to why some of the 1000's are getting low mpg? I normally am over 200 miles before I fill up, and I am putting a little over 4 gallons in.

I am a little confused as well. My idiot bar flashes before i hit 150 miles and but 4 gallons in. Would pipes make a difference? What other mods have you done to make that MPG?

Riding in town or riding on the interstate will make a difference. Most of my riding is done in town and I have been averaging about 33 miles a gallon.I have averaged as much as 36 miles a gallon with some interstate riding thrown in.I believe if I did all interstate riding on one tank full of gas I would hit the 40 miles a gallon mark.I have also had my bike remapped with a Yoshi Box 5+ low and mid range to get rid of the low RPM cough/hiccup.Everything else is stock.AS I remember I was getting probably about 3 more miles a gallon before the remap, but I believe it was worth it.

TB's are synched...airfilter is clean...plugs look good..... Yosh adj 1.5% at idle, and 5% at both low and mid throttle. I have Leo Vince exhausts!
On the super slab, I have gotten as high as 49 mpg, averaging 75 to 80 mph.

I get 41 MPG

My bike has gotten better gas mileage with age. I have over 11000 miles and get 41 MPG. I drive a lot of highway miles going to work, with light traffic getting to work and heavy traffic coming from work. I run between 70 and 85 by my speedometer, (depending on whether or not my Harley riding friend is with me and needs to keep up).

I have also noticed, I now have no problem pushing the 120 MPH setting on the dial.

Give it some more miles.

"Guessing" is too weak a word. The Strom gas gauge is notorioiusly non-linear - it takes me 150 miles to consume the first two bars and less than 75 to consume the last two.

The only way to get an accurate gas mileage figure is pencil/paper and do the math, preferrably over at least three tanks to get rid of the inaccuracies of whether you filled it up the same each time.

I doubt there are many 1000's getting high-40's. The overall average seems to be 40-45 for the 1000 and 45-50 for the 650. So high-30's isn't completely out of line for the 1000, especially if you're riding it hard, idling it excessively, or riding in traffic. I'm sure you can ride it hard enough to get 30, but you'd really have to work at it. Below 35 in normal use, I'd guess you've got something off - probably a sensor.
