Air inlet bug screen

Couldnt believe how many bugs covered my air cleaner. Dont know if this will help but what the heck. Took a piece of flat strap, bent and drilled it to attach to the gussetts above the radiator. I took the old air filter screen and trimmed it to fit the area. Might keep some of them out but we'll see.

I just zip-tied some window screen over the end of the snorkle.

Same here. Works perfectly, took less than 5 minutes from start to finish and cost nothing.

The snorkel opening is about 1x4 inches. I would rather bugs get stuck in my air filter and block almost no air as compared to them blocking the snorkel and blocking what little area there is.

Hammers solution looks good since it doesn't directly contact the airbox.

The snorkel opening faces straight down. I don't believe that bugs get in there as a result of airflow at speed in my experience most of what I have found in there are wasps and bees and other flying things (dead) that appear to have flown in whilst the bike has been parked and been trapped.
In the 8 months or so that I have had the mesh on the filter opening I have never had another insect inside the air filter housing and I also have never had a squashed insect embedded in the mesh which tends to support my theory.

I've had mine on for a couple of years now and never found anything squashed/embedded in the screen.

Although I disagree with your theory, the screen just works.

+1 on screen & zip tie.

I looked at the screen(hardware cloth) recently when I changed my air filter, thinking it would need to be cleaned. Not so, and the air filter was much cleaner compared to before I had added the screen.

I've noticed no loss of performance with the screen on, either.

Well that's good enough for me. I'll have to remember this the next time my tank is off.
