Lightbulb Handle bar confort improvement

Hi everybody. I found something interesting on my 2008 Dl1000 this morning. I ride it for 10000KM since I get it new last year. I am very happy with the bike. I got some problem with injection ( some surges and backfires ) like almost everybody with DL1000 here so I installed a Dobec TFI and it fixed problem for now but there is only one other thing I'm not happy with. I found that there is a lot of vibrations induced in the handle bar from little road defects like nicks and crack compare to the last bike I own, a Katana 750 2002. The Katana handle bar was supported by rubber damper to reduce vibration from road and engine. On the Vstrom there is rubber too, they are squeezed in the upper steering stem between four special washers and two long bolt but I found it so much tighten that there is no space for movement. I loosen the two locknuts squeezing it maybe aft a turn just to get little movement like on the Katana and now the bike is a lot more comfortable to ride and there is no lost in handling precision. I am very happy with now. If someone have the same feeling with handle bar ,try it, the difference is awesome. It make feel like if the front forks was more strong.

PS : Do not loose the nuts too much, it could be dangerous. The best way to do that could be to install a longer shims between the four special washer and torque the nuts at the torque specified in the maintenance manuel!!

Good ride

Very interesting. I've never thought to look into that.

Thanks!
