Advice on handlebar storage

I have a Protaper Contour bar (1 1/8" diameter) but I want to do this mod that only seems to fit bars up to 1":

https://www.stromtrooper.com/showthre...dlebar+storage

Anyone have any ideas? (Just so you know I can't weld, solder, cold weld, sweat, machine, lathe, forge or rivet, but I do have a pretty solid understanding of screwdrivers [both phillips and straight] and applying different adhesives to flat surfaces)

Thanks for any help.

I would look for mounting hardware for larger bars. I mean I know I sound like a smartass but.......

Maybe even call Garmin and ask them if they have a bigger size clamp?

I'm not finding many mounts out there for the 1 1/8 bars. The techmount is nice, but aloso about $70

Here's a thought that does require a little work.

Get the standard emap mount like I used. During this search, I found them REALLY cheap http://www.altrionmarine.com/store/i...cket-emap.html

There really isn't anything inside the mount that 1/16 on a side will hurt, so... get a piece of 1in dowel and wrap a layer of sandpaper around it. I doubt the paper needs to be very coarse, I'd say try about 100 grit. Hold the mount around the dowel/sandpaper by hand while turning one or the other (or both), whatever seems to work. The plastic isn't very hard, so it shouldn't take much.

Test it on the bars pretty often. If one layer of sandpaper isn't enough, wrap another and try again.

The beauty is, if you go too far, you just add in the rubber strip that comes w/ the emap mount to it and it will shrink the opening back down a bit.
