fork skins

Has anyone put fork skins on their DL? In particular the Moose Racing fork Skins ( http://www.mxsouth.com/moose/moose-r...fork-skins.htm ). Does the short version (5") fit? Did you use the 33-43mm or the 44-50mm?

(a search on fork skins showed no hits) TIA

I've had them on mine for a long time now.

They were a challenge to get them on and to stay but, once set correctly, they're fine. Probably been there around 40,000 kms now.

I run a similar set that I made on my dirt bike. They work fine but you need to make sure you clean out under them regularly.

So what is it, am I a smart*** or a dumb***? Maybe I'm just an ***hole.

I hope that's not the case. I haven't touched mine except when I changed fork springs at the beginning of last season.

I'd pull them down and check and see what it under there. My dirt bike sees a lot of mud, more in one ride than most stroms will in their life time. After all I do live in the great pacific northwet.

Do fork boots or skins work with a fork brace? I don't think they would cuz the skins need to be clamped to the top of the bottom fork tube right where the brace mounts up.

I'll know where I'm supposed to be when I get there.

I cut around the bottom accordion pleat at the wide point and the boot sits on top of the brace. The springiness of the boot keeps it in place. I wasn't crazy about the idea when I first read it, but it really looks and works fine.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
