Lowering Link problem

Just tried to inbstall a set of Kouba links on my DL1000K6. Can't get the top link bolt out without removing the exhaust. Anybody got any tip/tricks for getting around this?

I went and got a new bolt, than just cut the old one off. when you put it back together, just put it in from the other side. worked great, I used a sawzall to cut it off, took about 45 seconds.

Remove the rear wheel stabilize bike with centerstand or rod through swingarm hole. Once the bottom bolt is out on the lower link point lift the entire swingarm up now you should be able to pull the top bolt out to clear exhaust.

I sent " Kouba Links " an e-mail about this isue, and suggested that he needed to include directions on this in his instructions. That was about 3 months ago, I guess he didn't get the message. This is the kind of info that needs to get out on these message boards. If enough people complain, he will fix it. Send him an e-mail, tell him what you think!

I pulled the exhaust system off to get the clearance, then found another forum and the suggestion was to slide the sleeve the bearings ride on out the other side. Gives enough clearance to get the bolt out.

On another note, just installed the Pat Walsh skid plate/engine guards. Couldn't get the side stand bolt off with a wrench and couldn't get my 1/2" drive socket and breaker in because of the exhaust.
Once again I pulled the exhaust. I'm down to about 2 minutes for removing every thing from the headers back :lol:

Good to know, I'm going to be installing my Pat Walsh skid plate, and engine guards as soon as the weather warms up a bit. I was thinking it would be about a 2 hour job to remove, and reinstall the exhaust.

It never ceases to amaze me, how you can give 3 different people the same proplem, and they will come up with 5 different solutions. :shock: The human mind works in strange and mysterious ways. :wink:

It was the first time :lol:
Pull the 2 Hex heads that mount the rear peg mounts to the frame but leave them on the mufflers. Pull the top mounting bolt and loosen the clamp and the mufflers come right off. Loosen the clamp that holds the rear header to the crossover piping, loosen the front header and the clamp joining the front header to the crossover.
Everything should slide down enough so you can get a big socket and breaker bar on that side stand bolt.
The side stand bolt has Yellow thread locker on it, you gotta grunt to break it loose.
