givi engine guard screw problem

I recently received the engine guards (TN532) and attempted to attach the plate to the tube with the provided screw. after getting a couple of threads in, the screw became very difficult to continue using my fingers, or an allen wrench. It appears that some of the coating has coated the screw threads. what can i do to get the screws in without damaging the threads?

My advice would be to replace them with hardened steel or stainless steel bolts. The ones that come with the bars are quite soft and there are numerous threads here of people breaking them.

Alternatively you can find a nut or die that fits the bolts, chuck it in a vise, and run the bolts through it to clean up the threads. You can also use a wire brush in a drill to remove the powder coating from the threads. Wear eye protection if you do, those wires are rough when they fly out.

I had the same (type) problem with the screw going into a threaded fitting that was crimped in place. The crimp crushed the hole. I fixed it with a tap to clean out the threads you can do teh same with a tap & die set.
