Givi bars - won't line up!

After looking around at the options I ordered some Givi engine bars.

They warn you to get a mechanic to fit them but even if I just leave the bolts loosely in place to hold the bars on, I can't get the two sides to line up. They don't seem to match up and no amount of pulling will get the hole lined up squarely for a bolt to thread.

It looks like you'd have to twist them as well as pull them together in order to get the thing joined. Anyone else struggle with these? Would be glad of some advice from past experience please?

Thanks - Simbad :?

In my experience, things like crash bars and luggage racks sometimes need a little yanking to get lined up. But if they're way off as you say, they're either defective or the wrong part for your bike. Send them back.

Ditto send em back. My Motech bars were fine and lined up with no problems so probably the Givis you got are out of spec.

My first set of Givi bars didn't line up either.... so they went back
My second set of Givi bars did line up (at least enough)....

... however during my holiday in Scotland the right bar broke because of too much vibrations and too much tension in the bar (apparantly they didn't line up enough after all).

lesson learned: never try to mount the bars with twisting or pulling.
another lesson learned: never buy givi bars

Soon I will get the suzuki (Motech) bars.... I hope/trust those will fit perfectly.

That's good advice thanks.

I spoke to Givi and they said get a mechanic to do it or send some pictures. I'll see what I can do.

It seems as though it's pot luck whether you get bars that line up properly. I don't fancy twisting them too much if they're going to fracture later!

I think the other bars tend to be more expensive - any UK prices?

I mounted the GIVI bars 6 months and 6,500 miles ago on my K4 DL650. No problems yet so I would suspect that they are not correct for your bike.

Just to say after sending photos of the bar, Givi UK had a replacement kit on my door step within 24 hrs. Didn't want the old ones back either!

Very good service ...
