hiccup/cough at low ranges/rpm's DL1000

Proud owner of 2005 DL 1000 V-Strom which I purchased about 6 weeks ago.I too have experienced hiccup/cough at low rpm's and wondered if this was normal.Glad I found this sight with alot of input on how to correct this problem.Called my local dealer about the problem and said they couldn't correct it(runnig too lean at low ranges/rpm's) and that I probably need to install power commander.I'm running a stock bike and do not really want to add modifications other than to get my bike running smoothly.Power Commander is kind of expensive and while surfing the net for other options came along TECHLUSION TFI WHICH IS MORE AFFORDABLE.Will a TECHLUSION TFI solve my problem?I want to get this bike lined out!

Yosh box remapping........ +5 in low and mid. If the dealer mechanic says they cant fix it- THEY ARE LAME- go to a real shop. 20 minutes and under $40 to fix it.

Whenever in doubt- Roll the Throttle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! '05 DL1000

SHUVELHED73,Found a dealer about 70 miles away that has a yosh box,but is not familiar with the V-Strom 1000(not many of these bikes around in the midsouth).Is it as easy as telling him to remap with the yosh box to +5 low and +5 mid or is it more to it ? My local dealer must be an idiot, didn't even know what a yosh box was!

Yeah- I'd stay away from that shop for sure!!!!!!!! A remap is a fifteen minute easy fix. Mine ran great right after( hiccup was gone ) Good luck!

I concur with Shuvel. A five-point increase across the board (particularly in the low and midrange) will fix you up nicely. Takes all of five minutes with the Yosh box.

Like Larry the cable guy says "git er done!!!" :lol: If they know how to remap a Gixxer or a TL1000r or an SV1000 etc.... then they know how to remap the Strom.

Had the dealer increase my low end to 10% and midrange to 5%. Each bike is different and you should start out with a 5% increase low and midrange and take it for a test drive. I may be all you need and then again it may not be. I found that my bike was still slightly lean at 5 and 5. 10% at the low range fixed it right up.
My dealer charged $10. Put it on the box a second time for free. Took all of 5 minutes to do the adjustments. Hope this helps. Mark

How did you come to the conclusion, that your bike was still lean. Did the dealer take an analyzer and check your exhaust fumes? Just curious.... 10% low range seems a little rich to me, especially if you have the stock exhaust still installed.

Got my DL 1000 remapped at PERFORMANCE PLUS SUZUKI in Memphis TN +5 in low and mid.So far no hiccup/burps/coughs at low RPM'S.Surge also seems to be improved when initially accelerating in first gear.Guy that did the remapp didn't think it would make much differance initially,but when he drove it around to the service department and then back around front after the remapp he stated that he could notice an improvement.Cost me all of $15.Thanks SHUVELHED73 and to all others that gave me good advice.The money I saved from not purchasing a power commander will go towards cold weather apparel.
