Low RPM = Low Battery w/farkles.... Good to remember to rev up!
I found out yesterday that running 55W lights can be an issue - duhhh....
I was puttering along on backroads at low RPM (I'm a very cautious "scenic" dirtroad rider!), and came upon four big mule deer grazing on the hillside. I stopped and hit the "kill" switch so as not to startle them, and watched them for only a couple of minutes.
When I tried to restart my 2002 DL1000, no go. I realized instantly that I was running my 55W lights, and had probably not been revving up enough to keep the battery charged! Luckily, I only had to turn around, drift to gain speed, pop the clutch and continue onward. (Since I was 10 miles off-pavement on BLM land, would have been a long, long walk out with nightfall coming on!)
So, lesson learned for me. If you're running electrics, either make sure you're revving sufficiently to keep the battery charged, or turn off the optional electrics!
So now I'm looking for 35W lights and/or an upgraded stator. Suggestions on either one?
