Haven't tried Optimax (98 octane?), but when I first got my 650 I always ran it on Premium unleaded (95 octane here in Oz), mainly because that's what my previous bike (Gixxer 600) was happiest on. However with the huge petrol price rise we've experienced lately, I thought I'd try it on some Regular unleaded (91 octane), which is all the manual suggests you use anyway. The result? Over the last 2000km or so, no differences at all that I can detect. Starts the same, runs the same, no pinging, economy hasn't changed, etc, etc. So I'm just going to keep feeding it the "cheap" (ha ha) stuff. I'd be interested in your findings though if you do run a few tanks of Optimax through yours though.
