Rear Shock Links

Can any one tell me what the stock dimensions of the rear shock links is? I know that I saw it somewhere but I cant find it again. I'm not just the new guy but the short and round new guy. I will probably have to make longer links to move it down a bit. I need to know where to start. I am aware that someone sells longer links but I have access to a machine shop. so why not make them myself. Thanks for your help.

Rear Lowering

Do a search on this site on lowering links. My bike has been lowered as much as you could. I'm actually wanting to raise the tail end up a bit and want to put the height between what it's now and stock. I would like to know also what the stock doggy bone lenght is. Is that the way the tail end works, the longer the links the lower the bike. I can also make my own links, what is the hole size in the links. I ask my shop about swapping the links and they said the bike has to been suspended from the ceiling and then the bike is jacked up from underneath. Cost to do this was $ 40.00 Cnd. I will try to measure my lowered links with a veriner and post the lenghth.

Lower Links

I did a search on DL FAQ and here's the info. Links are 6mm thick,34 mm long. Stock bolt hole centers 140mm, 12mm dia. holes. Too lower bike 30mm or 1.18" hole centers are at 150mm long. Longer does make bike lower. Seth makes a kit which lowers the bike or raises it .875". I will try to measure mine and see what the hole center lenght is at.

Lowering Links

I measured the hole center distance on the links of my bike to be 151 mm. On the front the caps of the forks are lowered to their maximum, they almost touch the handle bars. This is on a 02 with no preload caps.
If you plan on carrying more then 425lbs the rear tire may occasionally touch the inner fender. This is after the bike has been broken in and the shock begins to sag. The bike is level with these adjustments. I'd say 150mm will work for your bike if you are short in the leg, but the bike may still be tall for you. I'm going to make links around 145mm. If you want to now how far the front fork are sticking above the clamps I could measure this and give the info.

Also if you corner agressively the pegs will touch at this height. I only had issues with this when the bike was loaded with gear. I'm not trying to drag my knee on the VS. You have to be careful how you park the bike because the side stand will cause the bike to not lean over as far, I have never had problems with the bike falling over. You can still lift the bike on the center stand with it lowered.

I've been researching the tail end of the VS and what will work with a heavy guy. If you do a search under V-Strom Raising Lowering Links you will find a person ( Seth ) who makes CNC Machined links. He also makes a spacer for the rear shock to add more preload. I have a 32 " in seam. My plan is to lower the tail end of the bike from stock height and I will make up or increase the difference in height with the preload. At this time I have found that the shock has saged from the original firmness. I currently ride the bike at the highest preload setting. This modification wiil improve the firmness of the suspension for two up and fully loaded touring.
