MP cycle design questions

So, I think I have made up my mind on an MP windscreen, and I just have to decide between the touring and grand touring. I am hoping users of this screen may be able to field a couple of questions for me that I have not been able to find answers to through searches. Can anyone tell me if either (or both) of these sizes are able to turn full lock with a madstad, stock bars, and stock handguards combo? Does anyone have a picture of the grand touring screen straight on that they could share? Anybody have the touring and wish they would have gone grand touring for more protection, or vice-versa to have a little less real-estate on the shield? Lastly, anyone out there my size (5'10 1/2", 31" inseam) who has experience with either...What size did you get? Happy with the size you chose? Thanks for the help in my quest for a new shield.

Not familiar with MP, but I am your size and went with the +6" Givi and Madstat bracket. Works for me very well. Don't forget you have allot of adjustment with the madstat, both height and angle. So perhaps somthing close to 5-6" over stock height, combine with the madstat would work well for you too.

Erik,

07 abs here, with the Madstad. I started with a 20" MP Touring shield last summer. Was good, but I wanted a little better. I was looking at the website over the winter, and saw the Grand Touring. Called Paul at MP, and he told me about something new, the Grand Touring with a wing. He sent me some pictures, and it looked good. I sent him my Touring on a trade in, and He sent me the new Grand Touring with the wing.

I have experimented quite a bit with the wing and the madstad. I now generally ride with the wing all the way down and the madstad down about 4/5 and back about 4/5. I clearly see over the shield, have no buffeting whatsoever, and have a gentle, unobtrusive "woosh" air/wind noise. I can clearly here the motor at all speeds.

BTW - I am nearly identical to your size, a notch over 5' 10" with a 30" inseam. I have a 1000 seat with a pad and beads, so I sit higher (probably almost 2") than the stock 650 seat.

No problems lock to lock, but I rotated my mirrors to the rear a little. I probably experience a little more truck wash/wind gust effect with large footprint, but nothing problematic or un-nerving.

I just recently put my cut down stock shield on for a test on a short ride. Obviously much more airflow, and it was smooth, but just too noisy. Put the MP GT right back on. Doubt I'll take it off anytime soon.

I am very satisfied with my MP shield, and with dealing with Paul/MP.

Note - If you haven't bought the madstad yet, you need the one that accepts the MP shields.

I'll try to get a photo up in the next day or two. Hope this helps.

Ride on, ride well.

Doug

My hand guards touch the 22" screen on the left side only. I got it before touring and grand touring designations came out. It may make a difference whether the bike is a 650 or a 1000 since the left side guards are different. The steering still goes lock to lock though. Whatever you need, Paul will work with you. He's the best.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

I have the MP 20" Grand Touring w/ madstad and love it. It is adjusted half up and back. The mirrors do interfere a little lock to lock even with the barbacks installed but it's not a problem. Highly recommended! Oh yeah, I'm 6'3"

Here a couple of photos of my Grand Touring shield with the wing. Pardon my VDS (very dirty strom).

First two - wing down, madstad in my usual down 4/5, back 4/5.....

One with the wing most of the way up. Very adjustable, about 6 or 7 "stops" (positions). I usually ride with it all the way down, but like having options....

Hope that helps.

Ride on, ride well.
