Buell turn signal problem

I did it, I went for the buell turn signals... I couldn't help myself, I didn't even break my stockers either... just incase I got the buells.

The install went fairly easily (I already had the plastics off for a Stebel install).

Now, slow blink, slow blink, slow blink... FAST BLINK, FAST BLINK, FAST BLINK. It starts normally, but then after a few blinks it goes to super speed blinks. At first I thought it was only the right hand signal, but it is both. It is not effected when the emergency flashers are on.

It is like a bulb is burnt out, but all four work. I have heard that this happens when you install LED's because of less watts or something, but the new bulbs are 10W, isn't that what stock is?

In case it matters, 2006, bought in july 07, only has 1700 miles on it.

Thanks in advance for your electrical expertise.

You have to change out the bulbs. The ones that come in the Buell signals dont pull enough power so the flasher thinks the bulb is burned out.

The bigger bulb won't fit with the inner amber lens you must discard this and use an amber 1156 bulb.

That will fix it.

Peace carries a big gun!

Got it. I will give it a try as it is really a cheap solution.

Can I change my rears to match the front? Would that save Watts for other farkels... Or do I have to increase the fronts?

Thanks.

Okay, so I admit that I didn't read the entire thread (or even the entire first post) on the other website with the instructions... My bad. Off to the hardware store, I will go with the 1156A's and remove the inner amber filter... too bad, I liked the look.

Thanks for the help.

with the amber inner plastic lens removed and an amber bulb in place... you will still get the effect. the smoke tint is still enough to be seen and appreciated. I still have to replace at least the front left one, but I think that they look better, are more flexible, and definitely are more affordable.

I'm about to do the Buell signal mod, so I have a question. Why are people opposed to the faster blinker rate? Other than personal preference, is there a technical, legal or cagers-won't-notice reason? If anything, I would think that the faster blinking would grab people's attention. Just wondering.

... a faster flash rate with an incandescent bulb doesn't allow it to achieve full brightness. In principal it sounds good... but the limitation is the filament trying to attain full brightness.

YMMV

I did the Buell turn signal upgrade to my SV foru years ago. I just upgraded my Strom two weeks ago. When I was adding them to the Strom I referecned back to the SV and noticed the lenses of the started to melt from the inside out due to the larger 1165 bulbs. Just something to be aware of, not that it would stop me from using the Buell signals.

For what it's worth, after I swapped to Buell signals, I sold my perfect-condition OEM signals on eBay for $60. Not too often you can farkle your bike and make money doing it.
