The TrailWing and the Presa Detour

Just had to make the change and thought I would start a post....

Here is a pic of the TrailWing..... The mileage is 8,462. I will admit that I probably pushed this tire about 250-300 miles too far....as the middle is too thin and I have pushed it too far past the wear bands. Matter of fact, I probably should have popped this one off at 8k.

I know this tire gets trashed on most forums (including this one to some degree), but the Wing is a pretty darn good tire. For me, I can say that I rode this tire.....middle of the road. Party agressive, pushing hard in the twisties, 25 psi in the dirt for about 500 miles....but mostly just tooling around the Springs and the Rockies. Overall, not one slippage and I never felt this tire put me in a position of compromise.....

Anyway....all good things must come to an end and life goes on.......

Here is the new dude.......

Yep....a Presa Detour......

I have high hopes for this tire, mostly based upon reports from G-Spot dudes on ADV. I will post occasionally to let you know how it goes......

Did the first ride today on the Detours.....

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...=340587&page=9

I was floored at the performance!!!! I dropped the psi to 25 on front and back and the Detour performed in amazing fashion, plowing through gravel and railing through the dirt twisties. I had no problem keeping up with the guys running TKC's.

Even if this tire only lasts, 5k....I will be very happy with it. But contrary to the post above, several have reported 8-10k on the Detours (I did my research before purchasing). I think it all depends up how you ride them.

Stay tuned over the next few months, as I report how they wear.

But honestly.....they are friggin awesome in the dirt!!!!!

This week I plan to pump them back up to 35-40psi and run the black top twisties....seeing how they stick and if there is some peg draggin.....(need some ridin therapy as my brother passed away today) .......Will let you know.

Glad you like them...but I did my research too, plus I have a good buddy on this site that runs them. You might get 8-10k out of a front, but no way you will "safely" get that out of the rear. The Tourance is the best mileage tire for these bikes, and I was getting nervous when I was at 8k. Don't get me wrong....the Presa is an awesome all around tire for the Strom's, but they do tend to wear quickly "on average". I agree with you that the Trailwing gets a bad rap for some strange reason, I find them to be a good tire. The new Battlewing is a GREAT tire.......I have found what I will be sticking with.

Ps........VERY sorry to hear about your brother!!!!!

Big B....only time will tell as to the mileage. I know that everybody rides differently....and tires wear differently with riding styles. For instance, I have a new friend here in the Springs that owns a 1200GSA and he only gets about 5k out of his Tourance Rear...... But many on ADV report 10-12k out of those tires.

I hope I can report back, by this fall and say......hey man, the Detour made 10k!!!!! That would mean two things.....#1 I rode a lot. #2 The tire exceeded my expectations.

By the way, I did a little ridin therapy today......all on pavement, runnin the twisties up in the mountains and the Detours stuck like glue. They feel a little different than the TrailWings, but I was always confident and pushed them pretty hard. I ran them at 40 PSI.

Big B....thanks for the kind words. Gotta spend the rest of the week with family and at a funeral, saying goodbye.

Answering several questions......

Here is a nice Review....

http://www.dualsportbiketest.com/maxxis.htm

Here is a comment off of other Forums.....

"I can give you my 0.02. I am completely happy with the grip and the ride. No slip, no problems in the wet, comfy, quiet. Good turn-in, solid on the brakes. As far as wear...Not so thrilled. I can't give you the exact mileage, because the bike's at the dealer, but IIRC, I'm just shy of 6K on them, and I think it would be a stretch to get 7K out of the rear. The front's good for at least 4K more."

I have read others only getting 4k out of the Rear.

I do not like the Tourance Front, so maybe a Tourance Rear and Detour Front are the ticket. We will see....I hope my Detour Rear goes for 7-8k....I think I have given up on 10k.
