Ramzuki backrest

I made this simple backrest using a piece of 4 x 4 x 3/16 angle, a piece of 3/16 x 1" steel strap tapped for two 5/16 bolts, and a 1/2" pipe. Took the headrest off my Dodge Ram pickup and turned it around backwards. The whole thing slides forward or backwards and the backrest can be raised or lowered. If you can weld, cut, and tap steel you will have less than $20 in it. My wife loves it. Of course it will work on any bike with a luggage rack. You will not have to drill your luggage rack or change anything on it. It can be installed with the (2) 5/16 bolts in less than 1 minute. Of course you put the headrest back on your car or truck when not needed on the bike.

I have been poking at building something myself. I have some headrests from an old Toyota Camry that your idea is inspiring me on. Ultimately, I would like to use my top case mounting pins as th attach points, but that will require more thought than I can muster.

The pictures, however don't show much. Do you have some better views? Thanks

Looks good, but it would look better in black.

Ramsuki backrest

The pictures turned out dark I know. Will try to get some taken in the daylite and post soon. I don't want to dye the headrest black ac it would not look good in my truck with gray upholstery. This is a good cheap alternative to the expensive backrests made espcially for the VStroms out there. Also made a cycle stand out of angle that lifts the rear quickly for chain maintenance. Cost about $10 in steel. I will post pictures of it also.

It looks well made and comfortable but a bit, um, big-boned . And, anyways, are backrests supposed to be that comfortable? I'd definitely get it re-upholstered yellow or black. Wouldn't want to see you get drummed out of the Yellow Wee Club.
