SW-Motech Handlebar Risers

I bought a set of SW-Motech 7/8'' handle bar risers - 25mm (1inch).

Went to install them and the holes do not line up. I was able to get one bolt in, but the other hole is just a bit off. Called the company I ordered from and they said they have heard of the same deal from another customer, and the customer just drilled the holes out; made the holes oblong.

Also, there is a small gap between the bottom of the add-on risers and the stock piece. I am sure once the risers are bolted on and tighten that all is secure, but I would've expected a 'tight' fit.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Has anyone else made the holes oblonged?

If so, how'd you go about doing that. My skills are ok, not the best. I have a small vice. I was thinking of securing the risers in the vice and modifying the holes?

After all, the risers are just spacers, right?

Anyone's experience with these risers would be much appreciated..........

I have the SWM risers also. The holes matched fine but I did notice a thin gap between them and the stock "cap". SWM has a cap also, but I don't know if that would make any difference. The risers don't match the contour of the OEM parts as well as they should.

I got a set of SWM Barbacks, which move the handlebar back as well as raise them up. I had no problems with the install but I was told to get a set of SWM covers as the OEM would not line up correctly. I never used the OEM covers so not really sure if that would have been the case.

I know this may be unpopular but my personal opinion of SW Motech is that their stuff is absolute junk. I ordered a centerstand and an Alu-rack top case mounting kit.

The centerstand was extremely unstable, I believe a strong wind could have knocked it over, it barely raised the rear tire off the ground. A centerstand should instill confidence...the sw motech did not. There is currently a Suzuki centerstand on my bike...much more stable!

The Alu-rack is another poorly engineered piece of crap. It is currently on my bike after several modifications. The Givi top mounting rack is a much better choice.

I will go out of my way to stay away from their products. That is my experience...your's may vary!

You coined it exactly: contour. The bottom of the risers do not follow the concour of the OEM bottoms.

So, anyone out there had to make oblong modification holes to anything? If so, how did you go about doing that?

The oblong hole thing seems to be the best remedy.

Hey guys

I am pretty sure
the GAP is supposed to be there.

You would tighten the front bolt all the way first... then tighten the other bolt..

the gap provides clearence so it can get very very tight...

you dont want the clamp to bottom out before the bars are 100% secure..

The factory clamps have the gap too..

OK, I finally got the risers installed.

I had to drill the holes oblong to the outside just a bit, maybe 1/16" or so. I used a high speed cutter on my Dremel drill. Took a little time and patience, but it worked.

I looked into the part number a little further. I ordered and rec'd risers with the part number LEH 00.039.102 (which had to be modified). If you want risers for the '02 V-Strom, w/o having to do modifications, make sure the part number is LEH 00.039.103. Apparrantly, there is a difference in the width of the center of the holes.

I ordered mine through CA Sport Touring because their shipping was less than Twisted Throttle. This is one of those stories where I tried to save a little on shipping (I think it would have been around $10 bucks) and ended up with spending money on a $5 dremel drill bit and wasted time troubleshooting. I guess if time is money, then I lost on this deal. Just another notch in the course of life.

Also, CA Sport Touring buys their risers from Twisted Throttle.

As for the risers. There is a definite difference. I had to acclimate to the changes the risers made in every aspect. Steering/riding, etc... I like the difference. It definitely gives a more upright seating position.

Well, that's my experience. Hope this helps someone.............

same/similar here. the good news is the risers were CHEAP.... the bad news is the exterior dimension is significantly off. the holes were ok.

their engine guards/skidplate are the best on the market, however....

I have been reading that the bar back / risers require the Brake line to be extended? Has anyone Had to do this?
