Tusk T-10 handblebars w/ BB Storms

Hey everybody,

I just wanted to do a little, and quick, write up about the installation of the barkbusters on the Tusk handlebars. I could not find any of this information when I was purchasing the stuff and I wanted to share what I have learned to help out other potential buyers.

When I bought the handlebars, I thought the original bar ends would fit back in, they did not. I tried to shave some of the rubber off and it would not fit right (the tusk ID is much smaller than stock handlebars).

I said screw it and ordered the barkbuster storms. The bar end inners that came with the storms did not fight. Still to small, was kind of expecting it, so I bought fuel line tubbing and I got it to work. But you could tell while looking between the barkbuster and the handlebar that it was not seated properly nor could I get it tightened properly.

I went online and saw that Tusk sells bar end inners, they come shipped with rubber tubing on the outside of the 'clamp' piece that you need to take off to fit in the tusk bars. The tubing would make it fit properly in the stock bars.

I needed a longer bolt to fit with the barkbusters and I ended up with a 4" number 8 (metric) bolt from home depot. Works fine, looks ok.

Now, if you order, or already have the barkbusters, you know they come with all the pieces needed for more than just the vstrom. There is are large cylinder as well as a smaller cylinder (which you use with the vstrom). There are also 4 washers. When installing the barkbusters on the tusk handlebars with the tusk bar ends, do not use the cylinders that the direction says, the spine will not be in the correct position to bolt on to the clamp on the other end. Use 2 washers, instead of the cylinder, on each side and everything fits perfectly. I was fed up with tusk until I ordered the bar end inners and now everything fits like a charm.

These are the links of the products use:
Tusk T-10 Aluminum 7/8" Handlebar | Dual Sport | Rocky Mountain ATV/MC (atv sport bend)

Tusk D-Flex Bar-End Clamp Handlebar Inserts | Dirt Bike | Rocky Mountain ATV/MC d-flex bar-end clamp (with the outer lip, that stops the rubber and sits on the outside of the handlebars, that plus 2 washers that are supplied with the barkbusters, make it fit like a charm)

Barkbusters Storm Handguards for Honda CB500X '13-'14, NC700X, NC700X DCT, Varadero, Crosstourer, Suzuki DL650 V-Strom '04-'14, DL1000 V-Strom & Kawasaki Versys 1000 '12-'14 - TwistedThrottle.com

It is a little late for you but there are a few options that may have helped out:

If you have a way of measuring the ID of the handlebars let us know what exact model of the Tusk bars you are talking about and that ID. We add a fitment note to the proper product description so the next guy has a little bit easier of a time.

You know you could have just bought the Tusk handguards.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Cor 13:13

Yeah, I know about tusk handguards. Also heard they are not that great. Tusk handlebars are awesome though. The spine on the Tusk guards is not as strong as barkbuster.

I did not know that, I called to ask about the barkbusters and mentioned to the sales rep that I do not think it will fit due to the inner diameter of the tusks being smaller but he didn't say anything about those products, but it all worked out.

The handlebar is:

I've used the Tusk guards on dirt bikes. It takes a pretty hard hit to bend them. Yea the Barkbuster may be stronger but if you crash hard enough to bend your handguards you probably have bigger problems!
