Muffler seems to be getting louder

Do they need to be repacked? it seems to be getting louder and does not seem to sound as good either. It sounds normal at low rpm, then by 7k it just does not sound right, it's hard to explain.

Is it the stock muffler? If so, it is all stainless steel and aluminum. There is no packing and nothing should have rusted away. Check for loose fasteners and air leaks at the joints.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

I think the issue is unrelated to the muffler, I'm going to have a look tonight after work. It's something vibrating and I think it's only doing it at certain rpm's when the bike is vibrating the most.

Interesting point Greywolf about the muffler being stainless. The exhaust pipes are stainless with little attraction to a magnet but from the last weld on the main body back to the polished aluminium end cap it appears to be ordinary steel with strong magnet attraction.

2005 DL 650 - 117,000m
1972 Suzuki T350 - about 105,000 miles (including 2 Castrol 6 Hour Races)
1982 Honda CX500EC - 260,000km
All owned from new

There are different grades of SS, so different I dislike the name. The strongest types are magnetic and will corrode on the surface. They won't rust through though. Stainless Steels - Introduction To The Grades And Families
