Tail Lifter Linkage...

Has anyone changed out the "dog bone" suspension linkage to raise the rear end a bit??? I did this to my SV and was extremely happy with the handling results...

I've seen them for sale at whaccessories.com (that's where I got my SV linkage)... They look easy enough to make, but I'm not extactly sure how short to make them for about a 30mm lift...

The problem with changing the lengths of the links on on the suspension whether longer or shorter it that it doesn't just effect the ride height but also changes the leverage on the suspension and can radically change how the shock responds.

In most cases a shorter length (raises rear) will increase the bikes basic preload to begin with and longer (lower rear) will soften preload. In some cases the range available in the shocks adjustments will allow to getting back to the original setting.

If the reason for the change is to quicken the steering dropping triples down the fork tubes is easily done and is of course free. In many cases of different bikes a ratio of 2:1 is close to the actual raise or drop, that is a 10mm difference in link length coorelates to a 20mm ride height change.

I have Hyabusa dogbones on my 650. It was about a 45 minute job to change them out with the Strom links. I actually put mine on to lower the bike by about a 1/2 inch but the potential to raise the bike is there as well. I have mine on the bottom of the three holes on the dogbones. For the life of me I can't remember which company I ordered them from. Do a google search for "lowering links for suzuki" and a decent number of reliable hits will come up.

In addition to putting the new dogbones on, my buddy and I raised the forks in the Triple clamps 15mm to compensate for the lowered rear end.

Shiny side up, Rubber side down!

I thought about that since that is what I noticed when I raised my SV... I'm running with the preload set at 3 right now, so I have some adjustment available for drop it down as necessary... I'm not that heavy (175 lbs), but I think I'm just used to a much firmer ride...
