bags on a budget?

i know, i know . . . "not another luggage thread!".

yes, yes, i have used the board search engine and surfed the web, but i only ended up with more questions . . . .

basically, i'm looking to outfit my wee with a complete set of luggage, racks/plates/brackets included, for as close to $500 as possible. i'm definitely looking for function over fashion. i love the caribou cases, but the complete set-up is about twice what i'm willing to spend on this. my house needs a new roof, too .

i'm looking for any advice and first-hand experience from the folks who have done this to a price point.

thanks in advance.

The Caribou cases are listed for $795 with shipping. Certainly more than the $500 you're wanting to spend, but not twice as much. It's one of the least expensive complete luggage systems you'll find.

For budget... look at some homemade stuff. SWMotech racks and ammo boxes, for instance. If you're more handy than that, get a set of Pelican cases and make your own racks for 'em.

Or Pelican 1550 for about the same price

JC Whitney top case for under $80 delivered.
This puts you a bit over $500 but it's a rock solid set-up
i'll buy pelicans for that price.

how much work is it to fit the pelican cases to the sw motech racks? and, do i need to do anything to the cargo rack to mount the jc whitney topcase?

thanks for the responses so far .

Hello my conservative friend. These are a little more than the pelicans but very nearly your buget. You will prolly need to mount them on the SW racks. I have seen them cheaper but I can not find the address.

I also have Toms set up "thanks Tom", and I am more than pleased with it. I for sure have less than $500 in the whole set up, and the cases are easy/cheap to replace if I ever need to. I really wanted the aluminum KLR set up....but they were on back order.

How about:

(2) Givi E36NJ's = $256.00
(1) Givi PL532 Sidecase Racks = $145.00

Free shipping from Sporttour.com

That's 72 liters of keyed alike storage space for $401.00. Not too bad for the money.
