Yes...another crash bar question...please take a look!

Hello all,

I recently got my hands on a 2005 DL-650....life can definitely be cruel sometimes...very shortly there after, I managed to find some little puddles oil right on the apex of a corner. I'm sure you can guess what happened. Luckily it was just a low side with minimal damage. Unluckily, I hadn't purchased crashbars yet. That is about to change. Now, I know that everbody is fairly tired of the crash bar conversations. I have done a lot of surching through the different threads. I'm fairly sure that I want the Givi's. My bike suffered a fair amount of right fairing scratches. What I couldn't find in the different threads was any recent info on the vibration problem--whether that had been resolved in the latest model of Givi bars or not? If the problem has not been fixed, do the Motech's have vibration probs at all? Those are my only two questions. Please share any info you might have. Thanks!

Motech crash bars

I have a set of SW-Motech crash bars and belly pan and have noticed no vibrations from them. The main bolt for the bars replaces a motor mount bolt so I supported the engine while I put that bolt on. Dont know if I had to but I did not want to take any chances. By the way, the bike got knocked over in the driveway and a front indicator got broke (fixed with black duct tape). I do not know if the other crash bars prevent this or not. I have a set of touratech's mini indicators which I haven't installed yet. They told me they sent them with the wrong bulb and would send replacements(they will flash to fast). This was late December. I also ordered a set of foot pegs from them which I didn't get but they said they shipped them. They told me they would send another pair when the got them in stock , which their website says they do , but no pegs or lights.
The motech bars did not budge in the fall (bike got backed into) and seem sturdy.Hope this helps.

07 wee, Motech bars & pan & powerlet outlet, Caribou panniers, Hepco&Becker top case,touratech side stand foot and indicators and fork springs, OEM hand guards and other stuff that I cant think of and some waiting to be installed.

I bought Givi bars last year when I got my Wee and have not had any vibration problems at all. I'm glad I put them on too. They probably saved some plastic when my bike tipped over in a parking lot, and will likely be useful again in the future.

No issues here with SW. Very happy with the protection they offer as well, saved my bike after a 55 mph highside. And still functional, although slightly bent.

howdy pehtreh and welcome. i have an 05 wee with sw motech bars and have no vibration issues. i dropped mine when the bbq grill ran out in front of me when i was pulling into the garage.:rolleyes: took out my left turn sig.

I'm a soon-to-be strom owner. I've been researching various crashbar options. I like the look of the Givi bars, but have also read about vibration problems. Ditto with the H&B bars. But not so much with the SW Bars. When I look at them, the reason seems to be that the overall length of bar between the mounting points is the shortest with the SW bars. The SW bars use the frontmost bolts, while the Givi and H&B bars skip over these and use the rear set of bolts.

If you think of the bars as any other vibrating object (like, say, a guitar string), then the one with the shortest length will vibrate at the highest frequency. It's the lower frequencies that people generaly notice as being annoying. Higher frequencies are less annoying. That's my theory at least, and that's why I'm going with the SW bars.

I also read a post over on VSRI where a guy filed his bars with sand, and plugged the ends with epoxy. I imagine that would help with vibration, too.

+1 on that idea. I haven't done it, as I don't have any problems with case guard vibration. However, if my Motech crashbars did start vibrating, I'd fill them up with sand (or lead shot, or powdered rubber, or something similar) and see if that fixed the problem.
