Center Stand?

If you had a center stand put on a DL1000 did you leave the side stand in place? Or did you take it off totally? Normally when you add a center stand does the side stand become redundant?

Mine has both. Sometimes its easier to use the stopping for gas or lunch or whatever. I usually use the centerstand when the bike is in the garage or I wash it or need to take a wheel off.

You definitely DO NOT want to remove your side stand after intalling your center stand.

Think about the procedure for using the center stand... You would have to stop your 'Strom, get off while supporting and balancing the bike, manuever yourself into position while holding the bike up, and then lift the bike onto the center stand. Now, imagine doing this in full gear, after a 6 hour ride, in the cold, on a sloped/wet/gravel parking lot. In short, you WILL drop your bike... repeatedly!

The proper procedure is to stop your 'Strom, lower the side stand and dismount, lift the bike onto the center stand, then retract the side stand. (Notice no dropping of the bike involved.)

Also, from a convenience factor, since you can't lift the bike onto the center stand while you are on it, you would never be able to momentarily rest the bike on the stand while you are waiting for a fellow rider or anything of that nature.

The two stands are specifically designed not to interfere with each other. You will use your side stand more than you center stand by at least a 10 to 1 ratio.

I agree that u must have both stands, just using the center stand is an invitation for a drop. I put my center stand on 4 weeks ago and after 1 week it bent like a wet noodle. I think the cheap tubing got hot after a days riding and when i went to put it up the weld almost broke and the part u put your foot on just bent to the ground. I thought the stand seemed light and flimsy when i was putting it on the bike and it is. i ended up putting the bike next to a high curb and leaning the bike down to the left i bent the arm back in. it was impossible to turn left in the shape it was in. I'm not even going to turn it back in to the dealer cause i dont want another crappy stand. I think a welder could fabricate something that'll work. Anyway, I definately would not take off the side stand.
