OK to use this sprocket ?

Today I found a sprocket in my garage.

It was the front sprocket I pulled off my 02 Kawasaki ZR7, it's 16 tooth.
I pulled it off the bike when it had about 4000 miles on it, i upped it to a 17T.

So I go look on Sprocket Specialists website..

Low and behold Kaw ZR7 and DL-650 (and SV) use the same sprocket number 572.

Being a cheap bastard... I get the bright idea that I could do that front sprocket mod I thought about ... for free. (DL has a 15T stock, mod up to 16)

Anyone see a problem with using a sprocket that has 4000 mile on it from another bike? It was in perfect shape when I removed it, still looks perfect..

I resemble that remark. I would not think twice about using that sprocket--the mileage on the sprocket might just match the mileage on the DL's chain.

Actually, this sprocket has LESS miles on it than the one on the bike

The 650 is not as tall as the 1000.

I like it, I just think it's a little Revvey when you run through
1st, 2nd, 3rd, like when you leave a stop sign.


Bringing those RPM's down always seems to make the ride feel smoother too, it puts you in that meaty midsection longer.

Stock or modified is fine just depends on your prefernce.

I'm also thinking about a 17T front sprocket. I'd like to run 70 mph at about 4500 rpm. Anyone out there running a 17T? Can you provide some rpm info?

I put a 16T on my Wee and just love the difference it made. Go ahead and put it on! :P

I think it depends on what you want, make the top speed higher or lower the revs on a certain speed or reduce the fuel-consumption or make the speeds "longer"?
I personally wouldn't do that.
The bike is useless at top speed due to its far from perfect aerodynamics.
The consumption is already one of the best in the class and more or less independent of the riding style.
Making longer speeds reduces the acceleration, and also the feel of the engine torque.
It would have positive impact on the speedo only.

But of course it is your choice, and de gustibus non est disputandum.

I just wanted to add how much I like the 16 tooth sprocket. I was running through the gears too fast and shifting way too often. I like to ride really smooth. The 16 tooth streches out each gear very nicely.

Highly recommended!
