MPG efficiency, 600 mile checkup [overdue!]

Just wondering what the group wisdom is on mileage. have the Wee-strom with a tad over 1000 miles, and the highest mileage I have recorded was about 42. last tank was barely 40.
is there something I'm missing? I am currently running Rotella HD oil with the only filter [suzi].
Have NOT had the 600 mile service routine.
is it normal for the TB's to be a little out of syn at this point? she runs smooth once warmed up...

and, I use hi test gas

thoughts?

You will probably get slightly better mileage running regular gas. I actually get 42-43 mpg with my DL1000 most of the time. Although high compression, these FI suzukis do not require high test - and do not perform better with high test. The FI is programmed for regular 87 octane.

ZAPP, It's your seat... You would get better mileage with a different seat ..

Try one of the 4 different seats you already have....

In all honesty I have gotten anywhere from 36 - 56 mpg on Regular fuel... I have suffered loss of fuel milage when I switched to 20 - 50 oil and when I have the saddlebags on
ofcourse the bike is no longer drag coefficient anylonger like it is when Naked...

Depending on mood, RPM and Fwy usage, normally average 42 mpg.....

I get 50-52 mpg on my 650 no matter what I do. Itís freaky. No bags or anything. So not much wind resistance. The winter gas has my mpg drop by about 2-3 miles. I know someone else that has the same mileage as me and he gets the same results. We both ride the bikes hard. Plenty of 80 mph and above. Fast starts etc. The engine should be smooth as silk. There should not be any "once it warms up".
It's a 650 not a 1000.
Eat your hearts out you 1000 guys. )

At first service they did check the throttle bodies. I forgot to ask them if they were ok, but I did not notice any difference.
I use Castrol GTX 10-40. Getting close to 8,000 miles.
To date no issues whatsoever. No burping, no farting, nada.
Just put the gas in and go.

I have always noticed that the bike's exhaust smells a bit rich, but usually when I notice it is when its warming up, so I guess its programmed to enrich at that point.

I guess it is always possible that the airfilter has some plastic wrap or something hindering [I HAVE heard of that happening... hard to imagine].
I am running 50 weight right now so that may be hampering. On the next change I'm going to go to the synth rotella that is ostensibly 5w40. or possibly the mobil 4-stroke oil that has a high mineral count and is 10/40 synth. it was a really quiet oil in my shadows, which have 'ticky' engines otherwise

My mileage is around 50mpg

On my 05 DL650, I just today checked the last tank of gas and got 49.7 mpg.(205.3 miles used 4.128 gal.) My bike is 3 1/2 weeks old, and I changed the oil and filter at 500 miles and used Valvoline 20w50 4 cycle motorcycle oil. I run regular gas.Bike today has 766 miles.
Other tanks have been similar, but have not kept track, but was in the ball park of 50 mpg.
