OEM fuel tank cover for V-Strom?

The 05 Wee I bought came with a NIB tank protector. It's the perforated vinyl version that goes for $33 at a dealer.

Is it worth installing? I've never scraped up tanks much and I'd think it just makes the fuel tank get hot and stay hot. But I dunno: Im thinking I should fleabay it.

I've got one for looks. That and my motoport pants would probably start to abrade the finish after a few thousand miles. Before the pants I never had any issues with the tank getting scratched. You could probably get $15-20 on ebay for it.

I also don't think it has anything to do with how hot the fuel tank will get.

Would that also fit a 1000? I just put one on my DL and I really like it. As for getting hot and staying hot, I have a response. Uh, What?!? Its not that thick that you would have insulation issues and doesn't cover hardly any of the tank. I would use it.

Another option...

I looked at the ZUK tank protector, but instead I went with a tankslapper clear film tank protector. It works great, protects the top of the tank from my tankbag, and the sides from my legs. It goes on and stays on. I really like it and the price is right.

One of those came on my 06 1K. No documentation from the dealer on how to put it on or take it off but no biggie. It works fine, looks good, and I can see it already having received some punishment that my tank isn't getting instead.

I looked around for some protection for the tank in that area.
Found nothing that I wanted on my bike.
Paid the dealer price & still haven't seem anything that nice, yet.
I like the thing sprayed w/ armoral, so it looks like part of the factory seat.
Yes, I armoral my bikes seat, tractor seat, toilet seat, boat seat.
Armoral! "good for what ails ya"
