Increased capacity fuel tank

Hi there, I've done a search, and short of welding brackets on for jerry cans, I couldn't find anything else that answered my query.

Does anyone know of a fuel tank with increased capacity that would fit the DL1000, whilst maintaining a similar silhouette?

Any help appreciated. :-D

no, best alternative is prolly a fuel cell that mounts on back like a top box

the first week I had my Vee, a ladder fell on it in my barn, damaging the original tank, I have since replaced it, but I plan on taking the dented original tank to a local Harley shop that builds custom tanks, and have them repair the dent and customize it for more capacity, looks like about 1gal could easily be added each side where it would be hidden behind the faring

I'm hoping to get the tank so it will give me a 300 mile range, I will have to increase the capacity about 2.5 gal

That's exactly what I want, about 300 mile range. The way I ride that would mean a doubling in capacity!! :rolleyes:

Thinking about it, that would mean a lot of weight heigh up with a full tank!

Do a web search on fuel cells. Sampson touring is a good start.

how many miles you have on yours ?

at first I was dissapointed with the fuel economy, but it has been improving every tank, I never broke 40mpg for the first 2500 miles or so, I got close, 39.5 and never worse than 38, now I have 6500 miles and have been getting 41-42mpg, and my best 44 (220miles when I got down to last bar, took 4.95gal to fill)

An interesting Idea that an employee of mine gave me that is building an ultralight airplane

he is building his tank by creating a block of styrofoam that is shaped into the shape he wants his tank

then laying it up with carbon fibre, (he will intigrate some mounting brackets) once cured he will cut the filler hole in then pour a bit of gasoline in, the gas will disintigrate the stryofoam, after he gets the styrofoam emptied out of the tank, then he will finish drilling vent & fuel line holes and mount the hardware

when he's done, he will have a lightweight tank for his ultralight

I pondered the idea, I've seen CF tanks on ducati's before $$$$$$$$$$

That's exactly how custom tanks used to be made with fibreglass "in the old days".

A safety concern of mine is static electricity when refueling. How would you eliminate the static? As we all know it is the vapor that burns not the liquid.
