Do I want a Wee or Vee?

About me and my riding:

My name is Jeremy i am 25, am 5'11" with a 33" inseam and weigh 180 pounds. My passenger/wife is 5'3" and about 50 pound less. 75% of the time I will ride solo. Most of my riding will be 55-80 mph (wide open WY highways and interstate 90) as its a long drive to get ANYWHERE out here. i will also drive on mountain roads as I live near both the Black Hills and bighorn and rocky Mountains. Dirt roads are likely but not muddy roads- mostly forest roads or wide trails.

I have looked at Vstroms for 2.5 years and just sold my 1999 Vulcan 750 to anticipate an upgrade. I have not driven either, but have sat on both the vee and wee in the shop. I like and am comfortable (as far as I can tell) on both. My wife also had plenty of seat room on the 650 and 1000.

I will likely get the bare bones model and purchase aftermarket bags and upgrades later. Unless a good deal comes my way.

Which one should I get? I really can't make up my mind at this point. What are pros and cons for each, price need not be one as I have patience to save extra if need be. Power, repairs, actual fuel economy, mandatory upgrades, insurance difference etc.

Thanks.

You need them both. The 650 when by yourself and the 1000 when you have your honey on board.

The Wee is easily capable of two up loaded at highway speeds (I do it from time to time).

It is also nice not to have the issues some of the Vee's seem to have.

Either bike would serve you well I think though.

Just pick one, man. You're the one who has to ride it.

As many times as I see threads like this, I'm still astounded anybody looks outside him/herself to find out what he/she wants.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

And to all who read any post on this forum.....Google is our friend, ask him first. :beatnik:

Simply add your subject/question to the word "Stromtrooper" in google search and there you go, all you will ever find on your query.

If you don't need to pass 4 cars at a time in a no passing zone or don't have the need to float the front wheel everytime you get on the freeway then the Wee is plenty of bike for 2 up riding.

If you need the front wheel off the ground then go with the Vee.

If 100mph will do then the Wee is for you, if you need a buck thurdy then go with the Vee.

If you like to work on tuning, clutch, and have the extra cash to make it just right the Vee is for you.

I have both... My Vee is for sale.

If I were doing a lot of two up riding I would get the 1000. I like power and as far as I'm concerned, with two people on it, the 650 is not satisfactory. Its adequate with one person, but no more than that.
Kind of funny to me that people get bent out of shape about a question like this. V curious sort of suggests that this is what this section is for.
