Test Ride -What to look for?

Hi All,

New to the forum, looking to get a DL1000, local dealership has an '05 with 12k miles for 6499. It has a Corbin seat (which I will probably replace, I didn't care for the feel of it) and Givi side panniers and top case. Other than that it looks about stock.

I sat on the bike yesterday, and scheduled a ride for Saturday. What things should I be on the lookout for? I'd appreciate any advice!

Thanks, looking forward to joining the ranks soon!

If you are a veteran rider, just get a sense of how the bike feels. Try the acceleration and grab a handfull of brakes to see how well it stops. Try some parking lot bumps to check the suspension. It's difficult to get a full feel of the Ergos with a quick ride on the bike though. When I got mine the private party gave me the keys and said, "go ride". I was back in 15 minutes knowing I'd be happy. I've had enough bikes to have experienced compatibility.
Your senses may vary.

Thanks,

Wouldn't consider myself a veteran, only had one bike.. But thanks for the info, I'm hoping I like it!

clutch chudder/noise/growl...condition of tires, as in good tread but old tires. weeping fork seals. handlebars straight and true (indicating a garage drop). FRAME RUST--no go with any rust anywhere. color of fluids--black is bad, clear is great. thickness of brake pads too. check the chain for rust and stretch. i've not owned that particular bike, that's just things i look at. are all easily fixable but add to money out of yoiur pocket for a bike that is top dollar.
