ABS history

Hi, I'm thinking about buying a used wee. No Specifics yet just looking around.
My understanding is that no DL1000 models have ABS.
The Dl650 models had ABS added in 2006.
What I'm wondering is was ABS added as a standard to the 650 models from 2006 on or did they sell non-ABS and ABS models at the same time?

I'm looking at a lot of private ads and sometimes ABS is listed. Sometimes it's not and I'm just wondering if people are just failing to list it as a feature.

Thanks,
mash

ABS began as an option in 2007. It became standard in the USA in 2011, earlier in Canada.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

I think I already know the answer to this one but can you put the abs parts from a 650 ABS onto an older non abs 650?
It's proably cheaper to buy it with ABS but just out of morbid curisosity.

It would be about as easy as putting it in a DL1000, not for the faint of heart or wallet. Here's three threads on how to do that.

It starts here
Swingarm extension for DL 1000
650A Wiring Diagram needed for vee ABS install

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.

The model is DL650A (on the VIN sticker) with ABS. Look for the ABS sticker on the front fender or the speed sensing rings on the right side of the wheels. DL650A option were sold in the U.S. in '07, '08, '09, and '11 (no 10's were imported) .

Non-ABS Models

Thanks for the description of the ABS history related to stroms.

ABS works great on slick asphalt when coming to an unexpected halt. Not so good on dirt . That's one of the reasons so many want the option to shut it off using eastern beaver products.
