V-sold?

Hey guys. Newbie here. I am getting a new cycle in May. I am a research person so here goes. The strom is top of my list but the classic 650vs 1000 question keeps coming up. I will not beat that dead horse because I need to ride a 1000. My best friend has a 2011 650 and of course as the story goes after riding It I was blown away!!!! I love the thing. I currently own 3 other bikes(2007 Honda shadow aero 750, 1992 Harley Davidson Electra glide, 1999 Ducati 900 Super Sport) so I really appreciate how well the wee does EVERYTHING well. I am a big horsepower guy so I have been looking @ the vee. I think a redesigned vee will hit the market in a couple months. I love the new wee 650 adventure hoping the 2013 vee will follow suit. I think my biggest problem with the 650 is on the highway & when I crack the throttle it doesn't have feedback. I don't feel like I am riding a motorcycle more of a large scooter. Some have said a aftermarket exhaust will cure the problem?? Anybody else feel this way? Thanks in advance

Nothing you do to the 650 will give it much more power. The Vee is fairly low on power compared to the average 1000cc bike. If the 650 doesn't make enough power to suit you, wait a month or so and see about the 1000 before buying a Strom. A new big Strom may not arrive until the 2014 model.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s
See https://www.stromtrooper.com/general-...nicknames.html

Please vote in the poll on what Strom(s) you have at https://www.stromtrooper.com/informat...-you-have.html

I test rode a Vee on Tuesday for 3 hours a 2006 12k miles. Suzuki bags & top case, heated grips, rock skidder thingy. They want $6,000. No power commander. It's funny because all the research I have done on here about it was spot on= clutch chutter, not very smooth below 3,000 rpm. I know the fixes for both those issues. No biggie
I was BLOWN away by the power of this bike. I did a wheelie on accident in 2nd gear!!!! My buddy has a 2011 650 and I love his bike & was worried about the 1000 not being as nimble in the corners but it was just as good as his 650 in all the corners & we even have a road with 5 roundabouts that we practice our cornering skills on & the 1000 was awesome. We swapped bikes many times just to get a objective opinion. Vee sold
Is $6,000 to much? It's dark grey... I love the color. I offered $4,000(dealership)

I'm assuming the $6k low-mileage Vee is from a Dealer? My Wee came from the used bike section at a local Harley dealer. The purchase price was at a bit of a premium, but I'm glad it became mine when it did, for there was a drought of Vstroms for sale in my region for the rest of the year.

Perhaps you should buy the one you liked. You obviously got on very well with that one, and it already has some accessories most people eventually put on the bike. Are you prepared to let this one go, in hope of perhaps saving a few hundred bux? Sometimes the best deal is the one in hand.

I agree. but 90% of people here say that the 650 is more than enough & having rode both they are not even close in power as people want to act like they are.

It is @ a local used cycle dealer. So $6,000 is not to bad? I am prepared to let it go. I just want to look around some more. Lots of bikes in this area due to year round riding. Thank you for your reply

Nah. Compare the DL650 to the S40, or the DR650...all 650 and all very different...or even the GSX-R600. Very different, all.

Supply and demand. You can get a new 2012 Vee out here for 9k out the door. A 6 year old Vee for 3k less... Not saying its a good deal not saying its a bad deal.

I just went through this and was looking for a used bike but didn't see anything I cared for. A dealer advertised 0% interest for 4 years on a 2012 Vee Adventure for $9500 OTD, and they gave me KBB retail on my last bike (I use my bikes hard but keep my stuff in mint condition). Like you said you can ride year round over there so it may be harder to find better deals, or because there is so much out there there may be good deals. I dunno.

I found a Coupe 2012 Vees for $8400 out the door. Some with bags. They funny part is the price really doesn't drop as the miles go up & the years get older??? Hints the 2006 with 12k for $6,000.
